I wanted to light weight my car and increase some hp at the same time. Will lighter flywheels help?? Does it make the car harder to drive?? For the ones who had this mod, do you recommend me to get this mod?? And also, my S is a daily driver.......
There is only one flywheel in your car
This is it
Here is the clutch
and then the transmission
Changing it out is a big job, it will not give you a gain in horse power. If you would like the RPMs to come up faster then you would use a lighter flywheel.
Taking off becomes a pain in the ass IMHO the car becomes no faster.....It does give you the feeling off added power down low when you step on the gas while crusing.
Something to think about the first time you have to replace the clutch, otherwise, wait. It will give you faster unloaded revs, and may help in barely noticable ways in lower gears. But it will also make you more suseptable to overrevs on a missed shift.
According to thisarticle they saw a small gain in top end HP while losing a bit of low-end torque, which makes sense since there is less rotational mass. I am not sure how flywheels affect S2000 already high-revving nature, but I would think in a similar fashion.
As others have said, the only gain you will see is better engine responsiveness and quicker revving.
Also, generally a heavier flywheel will be easier to drive around town with lots of stop and go traffic. Unless your clutch is goign to be toast soon, I would not waste the money and/or time required to change a flywheel. I would just wait until your clutch is toast and get a good pressure plate/flywheel combo.
