Default Plasti-Dip Issue?

Hi,

Plasti-dip is awesome and I have used it mainly on plastic parts. The thing is, I have been wanting to paint my wheels and portions of my other cars with plasti-dip but my concern is and my gut feeling tells me that it will damage the original finish of the vehicle or the wheels, i.e. the top coat, so plasti-dip might be a great idea yet it's debatable.

Thoughts?

It won't damage the wheels or paint. It is however a PITA to remove. My car had black plasti-dipped wheels and it took me an hour per wheel to get it all off.

I have done my OEM wheels many times. One thing is to use one can on each wheel from start to finish don't stop spraying. I placed a quarter on each lug opening. That way you won't remove the plastic dip when you are putting the lugs back on. The thicker you put it on the easier it is to get off. If toy armor all the the wheels before you spray it will not stick to the rubber. Use a rag to apply the amour all and make sure not to get any on the wheel. Best of luck man. Later BD

So just for clarification. It won't damage the top coat of the original paint even though the plasti-dip has all these solvents!? Just want to make sure.

What Armour All are we talking about here? Is this the greasy version to make the wheels or tires shine? Apply it first, is that what it is?

Thanks

the original armour all yes. Actually the plastic dip will protect any surface it covers. Correct in applying the armour all first on the rubber only

I agree that the thicker the layer the easier to remove. The previous owner of my car did not fully plastidip the barrels of the wheels and sort of half assed it. That was the hardest to remove as you couldn't just peel it but had to scrub it off. There are lots of DIY vids on yourtube from the founder of the company.

WD-40 turns plastidip to mush and you and wipe it off. I used that method on spots that weren't thick enough to peel as one piece.
