In the 2 weeks that I have visited this web site (only had car 3 weeks) I have noticed several deragotory comments about the rear window. I would like to add my 2 cents worth.

I own a 90 Miata that I bought new over 11 years ago. It is driven to work an average of 8 months a year and has over 60k miles. It has the ORIGINAL TOP AND WINDOW and the plastic window looks almost NEW. I use a window protector (similar to a Muzmat) and clean and polish it about twice a year with Meguiars cleaner and polish. That's all it takes, just a little TLC.

Yes Honda could probably have used a glass window but since glass doesn't fold it would have to unzip first to put the top down (like the Miata and that's a pain) or the whole design would have to be different (top well bigger, etc) which could have changed the looks or size of the whole car.

Bottom line-quit complaining, take care of the window and enjoy the car.

I don't even OWN an S2000, and I read all this jve about the plastic rear window. I'm with Andrew on this one.
If the thing were glass, and didn't zip out, then peeps would whine about some crap like, "It's heavey" or..."The glass is too small." It's obvious the reason Honda put in plastic was to make the rear window bigger.

So like I said, I'm with Andrew. And if anyone has any gripes about it still, then by all means, YOU take my '86 Camry and my left nut, and I'll drive off with one less nut and a BADASS car!!

I doubt if anyone wants your left nut, my friend. The plastic window is manageable, but not desirable.

A glass window would have either reduced the already small trunk, or make the frame less rigid. With those choices, I'm GLAD there is a plastic window.

Does the Miata have an electric top (seriously)? If the plastic were to save weight I would have expected a manual top (I'm somewhat a purist). With the electric I think it was due to trunk space....it is pretty weak already unless you don't mind checking into Vegas with you duffle bag.

Andrew, I owned a 90 Miata for 8 years and I can tell you that there is a difference in the way the windows last. The rear window in my Miata looked better after 5 years with NO special care than the window on my S2000 did when I bought it. After 8 years the back window of the Miata still looked better than the back window of the S2K after a year. The S2K rear window has had special care and it sucks. Now this isn't necessarily a complaint, it's just the way it is. I love the S2000 and if I have to have a rear window that's not as good as one on an old Miata so be it.

BTW, it is possible that the problem with my rear window stems from the two plus months that it sat on the showroom floor. 99% of the time I ignore it because the top's down anyway. I can live with it the 1% of the time that the top is up.

The miata plastic window is much better quality than the plastic they used on the S2000.
The big problem is the window on the S2K get worse at no time and if it rains, you almost has no rear end vision through the plastic.
Just a faint shadow.
There is also a big blind spot on both side created by the black cloth top. Even you turn your head you still can't see the space besides the rear wheel. Try that in rain in a S2K and you will known what I am saying.
You either open the window to stick your head out in the rain or pray. S2K needs a better window (plastic or glass).
