Default please help! engine light came on and i have no idea why...

hey guys...today my engine light turned on out of nowhere and i am a bit worried as to why it turned on. i recently installed a comptech cold air intake on my S but the installation went smoothly and the engine light did not come on after installation. it has been about 2 weeks since the cai was installed. i have about 6k miles on my car and it has been running very smoothly. i did do some hard driving today for a school project, but it wasn't excessive.
the only reason i wanted to come and ask you guys for your opinions before going to the dealership to have it checked out is that i don't want the guys at the dealership to give me grief for having the cai installed. if anyone has had this same situation or knows what i should do, please let me know. thank you in advance for you anticipated help.

maybe you didn't close your gas cap all the way??? i heard that if you don't close it all the way (full 3 clicks) the check engine light will go on...i *think* it says that in the manual but i'm not sure. i know i heard or read this somewhere but can't remember exactly where.

try and reset your ECU...this link tells you how. if the gas cap is on tight and you reset the ECU and the engine light goes on again, i'd take it to the dealer.

hope that helps!

I have answered this problem many times. In fact the question is currently active in the under the hood forum. Check to make sure your vacuum hoses are in good order:

It's a vacuum hose. Either loose or not plugged into the correct place. Check the one that was under your filter box- including the small tank/valve mounted there.

I had to replace my gas cap because it kept coming loose causing the light to come on.

hey guys...i checked the gas cap and the hoses, and the light still comes on. now, however, i realized that it is the maintenance light that keeps lighting up, not the check engine light. perhaps i just need service. thanks for all the help.
