Default please help this musclehead

OK- so I am driving down the street in my supercharged saleen and a red s2 comes by me. What a beautiful car! Besides a c5 I also have a acura tl. The honda engine in the TL is simply incredible. So I am thinking why not get that kind of engineering in a sports car aka s2. Here is my problem- I have a torque addiction - thus the question is : Will I be dissapointed with an s2 or is there enough torque to make it fun? Any former vette, viper, saleen etc. owners out there diggin the s2? Thanks in advance.

OK my first car was a 1982 5.0 GLX Mustang. I am currently restoring a 1969 Mustang Fastback.

I love muscle cars.... I love DRIVING more than I love the cars themselves. IF you are a true driving enthusiast and love to feel the difference between different types of sports cars then you will love the S2K just as much.

The car is a marvel of mechanical science.... if you love cars and love driving then you will love this car.

If you feel that have a 1/4 mile time slip in your glove compartment is needed to be cool with your friends.... well maybe this ins't the car for you.

I hope this helps....

You have to look at the specifications of the engine. Compared to a viper or saleen, to be honest the S2000 does NOT have that kind of torque at all. That kind of torque and large displacement is in a different category. The F20C that is inside the S2000 is a high-revving engine with max horsepower kicking in at higher RPM's. Yet, the S2000 is still a pretty fast car ... with stock 1/4 miles times capable of under 14 seconds, and 0-60 under 6 seconds, as well as fantastic breaking distance.

HOWEVER, I guarantee you'll love the S2000. It is an engineering marvel with perfect balance, good weight, and enough power to stream you across sharp turns and maxing out speeds. The gearbox is one of smoothest ones available and you'll notice it immediately. If you desire more power, there are superchargers and turbos available (more is probably on the way). Yet, you have to realize this car was not made as a dragracing car. But because it handles so well, you can go around turns quicker. When it reaches Vtec, the thrill is amazing and the number of on-lookers you get on the freeway is ridiculous. This car is ridiculously fun to drive, so I urge you to give it a serious consideration. In others words, GET ONE.

I'm not so sure this will be a car for you. Its not just torque but you are giving up a lot of torque for the weight savings. So, revving up an engine constantly to get the most power out of it is needed, but you will not have to manage the weight of the car around corners as you do on the other torque monters.

You won't like an S2000. Don't get one. Keep the car exclusive for those who know. We don't need more torque lovers buying them and then flooding the used car market with them when they're not 100% pleased. It lowers the value of our trade-ins when we tradeup to a 2002 model.

Bottom line: If you don't care about actually driving the car and you just want to tap the gas and smoke people next to you, then the S2000 isn't the car for you and don't let anyone here tell you otherwise. I wouldn't try to convince someone who is an admitted musclehead to buy something thats going to disappoint him/her and end up on the used car market.

If you enjoy twisty roads, exilerating driving, and convertibles enough to buy a car for it- buy the S2000. It performs better than most other cars in its class and in its power groove (over 6000 rpm's) you feel very considerable acceleration.

Is it me or do we see a post like this once a month? Is this already in the FAQ somewhere? "Q. I'm joined at the hip with torque, should I get the S2000? A. If thats your only question- No."

I've had the good fortune to own all the muscle cars you speak of. '67 Mustang 390 GT, '88 Vette, '90 Vette ZR-1, 94 Viper R/T 10 and '00 S2K. I've enjoyed all these cars. They are all wonderful in their own way. I like each one just as much but in a different way. But you state that torque is your main priority. All of these, except for the S2K will crinkle and boil the tires. However, the S will drive rings around all of them in a closed, tight circuit. All of them has made and do make bystanders go ga-ga. This Bud's NOT for you.

Just go drive one dood, see if you like it or not. You'll either fall in love with it from the time you push that little red button, or it'll fall way short in your mind.
