oh and 4BANGER to answer your question
im going to get my s2k right out of school. i have a sentra now that will be sold so i will have a little extra money and i should be making around 4 grand a month b4 taxes and with my first duty station most likely being a boat i will be out to sea for most of that time with no way to spend money lol.
Exactly how do you plan to make 4000 a month as an E-3/perhaps E-4. I've been in the Navy over 5 years and my years as an E-4 never saw that amount of money. if you are married getting BAH maybe, but then you will be spending that on a place for your wife/dependents to stay. If you are on a ship you will be eating chow hall, so no BAS. Maybe you will get COLA for your Homeport.. and that Seapay thing you read about? forget it.. every CO of every ship makes it a point to pull into port before they hit 30 days so they can avoid paying anyone. I'd love for you to break down the pay you estimate you will be receiving once you join because there are some serious miscalculations.. Not shooting you down. just being real.

I'll give you the benefit of Hawai'i COLA etc.
E4 under two years $1827.00
COLA +- $400.00
BAS 300.00
-----------------------------------
2727.00
-taxes,ss,medi,sgli $300.00- very conservative number
----------------------------------
$2427.00

it's not alot of cash when you think about it. if you get BAH for whatever reason, then that does put you at around 4000 a month(In Hawaii), but shouldn't you be spending that on rent? (BAH fraud is a bitch BTW) Good luck with the car ( I realize I'm not talking you out of anything)

Dude, take it from me, seeing as I bought a Supra as my first car in the military... You will wish you didn't. Spending all your money on your car is a bad idea. I am an enlisted flyer and I make a good amount NOW, but 3 years ago... man were there some close times thank god I could eat at the chow hall for free LOL!!!

Just be a little bit smarter with your money. Yes you have job security now being in the military and all, but just think if you do something dumb like get a DUI and get kicked out... now you have a nice pimped out ride and no way to pay for it and it gets taken. SAVE YOUR MONEY!

BONUS or no bonus...(by the way, don't forget taxes on that!!!)

Just get a beater for now, then upgrade when you are more stable.

You can't count on anything paywise other than the standard for grade paycheck. The extras such as housing and seapay and comrats change with each new assignment. Count your base pay only as a sure thing, the rest will depend on where your at.

Maybe you should take that bonus and put it towards securing your financial future?

That money would help make a down payment on house some day.

i was reading up on the navy and it says that officer's starting pay is 2600. it doesnt make sense that an E-4 would make more than an O-1
