PLEASE READ: Had oil changed a week ago....
OK here's an update.
The only testing the dealership has done by an instrument called the HDS Tablet tester. According to that, they say, everything is fine. They have NOT done an engine teardown or any sort of compression testing.
I was hoping to get some solid figures of my engine's performance to compare to stock engine figures. But I'm told the HDS Tablet tester does not provide this kind of data. I suggested removing the head and inspecting the cylinders, etc. for damage, and the service manager told me that that there is a risk of 'breaking engine seals'.
They are providing me with a letter accepting responsibility and 100% fault for this mess.
And for all my trouble i'm getting 1 year of extended warranty.
I can push for an engine teardown, is that the way best next step? Does anyone else have any information on the HDS Tablet tester and what kind of info it provides?

More important than the head they should drop the pan and inspect the main bearing surfaces. Also the residue in the bottom of the pan might be a better clue as to what did/didn't happen during this lack of lubrication. Suggest that they do this.

An electronic tester such as the HDS won't be able to provide you with these details.
I think the tester will only tell you if something is totally fubar'd.
The engine seals aren't a big deal, they can install a new gasket afterwards.
At least drop the oil pan.
Undecided on the head teardown.
Props to them for at least being upstanding about it.
