While at my Honda Dealer (Honda City on Long Island) the other day to schedule my transmission fix I saw the most God Awfull S2000 to date. The first thing I noticed was it was silver like mine but with the red interior. Actually the first thing I noticed was he had stickers EVERYWHERE that you could stick one including on the trunk lid on either side of the emblem. The emblems were replaced with red ones. It had (IMHO) tastless aftermarket rims (three different colors, chrome with red bolts and yellow centercap) and (sorry Rick) two tone steering wheel cover (red/black). He also had pillar guages and assorted other "improvements".

In my opinion and the opinion of the guys in the shop it looked like you gave a 12 year old a credit card and a parts catalog.

My mechanic told me it was in for the tranny fix also. It was to be the first one they would have done. I said good, learn on that one.

I am serious, this guy should be arrested for assault on the senses.

Please tell me it is not someone here!

Might be our old buddy Chris2000/Tiger. He's been known to lurk in that neighborhood.

Don't worry Bieg. I'm sure it won't hurt the resale value of this "classic" automobile TOO much.

Hey Strike,

Did you ever go to a car show? Bone stock examples of almost any car (let alone a very desirable enthusiasts car like the S2000) are worth more than one that has been "improved" by it's owner.

The S2000 will be a collectors car because it is such a landmark car for Honda (and sports cars in general) and because of it's pure design.

Bieg,

All this talk about the S2K being a collectors car is just SPECULATION by YOU. There have been numerous cars that were supposed to be classics but didn't make it and then there have been cars that weren't supposed to be that became classics. Regardless of whether the S2K becomes a classic or not, you don't have the right to dictate what others do to their cars. You're more than welcome to keep your car bone stock to conserve it's resale value. Hell, if I were you I would put it in the garage and not change the oil so you could truly claim it was in factory condition when you sell it. Just get off your high horse and quit telling everyone else what to do with their S2K. They paid for it, not you.

Hey Strike,

I have never told ANYONE what they should do with their car or their money. I offered my opinion as to why I would keep it as stock as possible. That is my opinion and I have a right to voice it just as you have a right to voice yours.

What I don't do on this board is make personal attacks on people who express a different opinion than mine. That seems to be your style and I don't appreciate you trying to take it to a personal level.

As painful as it is to see modifications that exceed the bounds of what we consider good taste, if it makes the owner happy, so be it. It's his or her perogative.

Opinions about modifications to the S2K appear to be an emotional issue for many. I think I recall posts on the other board lambasting people just for adding the Honda spoilers to the car.

So, in the end, each owner has to do what makes him or her happy, and disregard the barbs. Except for my red/black steering wheel, my changes will be very conservative (and even that is not so far out). I don't like cars with stickers all over them, but the guy who put them on his S2K obviously did so because it made him happy.

The guy may even post on this board, so let's go easy on him. I do recall an owner on Long Island who posted a message (on that other board) about modifying the steering wheel leather to red/black, although at the time I wondered how he was going to match the red leather color of the seats and fit the new cover so it matched the stock fit (he described a four-hour visit to a local shop, which wouldn't allow time for the shrink-fitting of the leather that's necessary to match the stock fit).

On the other hand, I like it when people express judgments about the good or bad taste of modifications to the car, because it does result in some "community" standards.
