Default Poor remote transmitter response

Hey guys, how far do you have to be from the car to lock/unlock the doors? With my remote, I have to be within a 10 feet range before it will work, sometimes closer... Is there something I can do about this? Could the remote be low on battery? Could the receiver on the car have a problem?

Is this normal?

Thanks,
Den

I'd try the battery first....10 feet is way short.

OR>>>

May sound funny, but hold the transmitter up under your chin (touching under the soft palate actually) and give the button a press.

I know, I KNOW....wives' tale blah, blah...never seen it documented, but I installed car stereo/security for 6 years. All of us did it. Works with my Xterra remote too. Quadruples my range.

Try it. Dare ya.

Check batteries. I've also found that the range can be effected (at least I think it is) by whatever vehicles are parked near the car in a parking lot. Sometimes I get really good range, other times it feels like I have to get right on top of the car before it responds.

Actually, I get the best response from my remotes when they're in my pocket!

Steve R.

You have a MY'00. Have you ever changed the remote battery in that time? How about your other remote. How's it work?
Mine will work over 50 feet away through a glass window.

Change the battery and see if it solves the problem. The other factors are what is between you and the car and the remote itself.

Hey guys,

a little off topic but in the same arena. I have a 2002 S2000 and I dont have a trunk release button on my remote. Instead, the button says Option. Could I have been given the wrong remote from the dealer (bought car from original owner). locking mechanism works fine. Anyway for me to program the Option button to open up the trunk??

Thanks,
Khue

datchineseguy - I have issues w/ my remote as well. I don't really care about the distance thing, but it is painfully slow in unlocking the in passenger side. I usually have to hit unlock about 4-5 times before it unlocks the passenger door. Opens the drivers on the 1st try though.

khuezee - that is the correct remote. just hold down the option button for about 2 seconds and it should pop the truck.

Chin stuff does work.

Use it all the time since my distance, like everyone elses, sucks.
