Thumbs up Port and Polish

I am thinking about doing a port and polish for the complete block and I know a renowned shop tht has done this countless times. The one thing that worries me is that he guarantees at least 35-50 HP to the wheels, by doing this process! IMO this sounds fishy because I mean that is a lot of power from an NA motor to pull out. Also, when I asked him he was like, "You only get some power to the wheels like about 35-50 HP nothing too much!" In my head that was a crapload of power because the cost is just about the same as the cost for any high-end header not naming names. Jus curious if this is a stupid question FLAME AWAY I am ready

Also, has anyone else attempted this process for the Honda S2000 any year doesn't matter I guess...

Are you talking about a stroker kit or porting/polishing the heads???

If it's head work then he's jerking your chain. Honda has these motors so well tuned that's its not worth it in my opinion.

There's no way you'll gain that much HP from the work you're talking about. I'm sure others will chime in with more scientific or experiential reasoning, but that guy's full of it. Sounds like maybe he's never done an S2000 before and is basing his estimates on other cars.

What cars does he normally do? Because I am guessing he does some American cars like Mustangs or Vettes. I bet those pick up tons of ponies on port/polish. I doubt he knows the F20c or F22c well enough to know it wont do as much. He might have experience with the process and be able to give you a good job, but doesn't know the engine exactly and what gains to expect.
I don't know what it will do to our engines, so no help there. But I can guarentee not 35-50.

If that... Keep in mind that the F20c and F22c are highly tuned from the factory so they have to have a very high level of porting and polishing already from the factory to pull out the amazing 120 hp/l that the F20c does... no amount of porting and polishing alone will yield a 35hp gain let alone 50hp...

He sounds like he was trying to get you into an impulse buy.

BTW, in your sig, it's VTEC not V-Tech. V-Tech is a company that makes different types of household telephones.

many japanese cars, especially turbo cars, will gain a lot from a port polish. The S2000 is different. Stock, it is one of the highest flowing heads out there.

Also, if he doesn't port and polish it right, you can LOSE horsepower.
