Potential new buyer, Questions. Please Help!
This forum looks great! Hard to find one, is this the only s2000 forum? I want to pick up a S2000 because I think its a great car, i've heard great things, and its the most bang for your buck in my opinion and many others. I have three major questions.
1) Should I hold off for the 2003 model? Dealer told me it was coming in Sept/oct. What changes/enhancements are in store and is there a price increase?
2) Can I lease the car for 2-3 years or would it be better to buy. Will a dealer lease them?
3) My co-worker is an RX-7 entusiaist and got a newsletter that he swares said something about discontinuing the S2000, any truth to that? I cant find that info anywhere. Through what year is Honda committed to the S2000?
Thanks in advance for helping me!

1) No known changes to the 2003 except for color. We will see the return of the Silverstone exterior and the Grand Prix White/red interior will be replaced by Grand Prix White/tan interior.
2) No known change in price, lease if you only plan on keeping the car 2-3 years, buy if you will be keeping it longer.
3) No known end date for S2000 production, my estimate would be at least 2004 or 2005.

If you want the car, get it now! Why not enjoy it for the next few months. Plus even though if there is a price increase it will be minimal, dealers may be charging more of a premium for the '03
2) Can I lease the car for 2-3 years or would it be better to buy. Will a dealer lease them?
Leasing is typically more expensive unless you can deduct it as a business expense. The interesting thing about this car is that the resale values are so good that you would probably have the option of buying it at the end of your lease for several thousand dollars below blue book - do the math and do whatever makes the most sense for you.

Reading between the lines it sounds like you see this as a bad thing if it were discontinued. I think most owners would be thrilled if they DC'd it as it would drive up values and make the car that much more precious.
Good luck!

Buy it now!
There were lots of changes to the 2002 model, we all suspect the '03 changes are going to be color only. I think the list of '02 changes is in the FAQ section.
The rumor of the S2000 being a short run special series I believe is a pile of bunk! Honda is making a profit on the car, I can't imagine they would discontinue it. The only partial truth (and I also believe this is all wrong) is the factory may need to take a sabbatical on S2000 production when the factory makes major changes for the production of the new Acura NSX. The S2000 and the NSX are made on the same production line, that is a fact!
You will love this car and this forum. Make sure you break in the engine properly!

1) I would hold off on it only if you want one of the new colors or if you wanted to try to bargain for a better price on an '02 when fall rolls around. I was originally going to wait until fall to pick up mine- but decided the fun or driving around in it this summer was worth more than the little (relatively) money that I would save by waiting.
2) If you are only going to keep the car for a couple years then leasing is probably a better option. Of course it depends on a lot of factors- interest rate, residual, down payment, trade-in, etc.
3) No-one knows. Well, maybe someone does, but they aren't speaking. My guess- '04 or '05 will be the last year in it's current form. If the car continues after that I would expect some major changes.
