The full list of MY06 differences (and MY07 inclusive) is in a stickied thread in the Under the Hood forum.

As I have said many times, the best S2000 is the one in your driveway.

You should decide for yourself what features are important to you. Also, do some test drives and see what speaks to you.

I've owned a 00',04' and now an 06'. The 06' is the best one yet,I would not own another sports car without some form of stability control.

If you are planning on installing a aftermarket FI setup buy a pre-'06. If not, the '06 offers a few more creature comforts plus the same wonderful performance.

FI is important for me, if I would have researched more before I purchased, I would have bought an '05. However, I look forward to the FI that will be available in the future for the '06 and newer S's.

VSA is a big help on the road when its wet. on the other hand its a drag when you wanna lose traction.
I will never buy a car again without some form of stability control. Stability control on my BMW saved me from serious injury or death on two occasions.

Don't like VSA? Turn it off.

If I only had one car I'd get an 06.

For purely nice weather / recreational driving... I wouldn't trade my 02 for any other year (except maybe 03 )

I like to hang the tail out on dry, good traction days. Clutch delay and muted throttle reponse would be undesireable to me.

i didnt mean to diss VSA, as i said its helpful in most occasions, its just that i have to turn it off when i wanna have a lil fun losing traction. its a bit difficult to get used to it at first coz it'll correct you and put you on the line that it wants rather than what you want, but sometimes the line that it wants doesnt neccesarily agree with your line, ie: VSA almost made me understeer into a curb while i was doing a U turn and i was anticipating a little bit of traction loss. thankgod for ABS
and that example wasn't actually for fun, i was in a hurry to look for my friend who got lost.

Does the '06 with its drive by wire throttle, VSC, clutch delay valve deter the driving experience of the S2000?
Hate to be a stickler here, but VSA not VSC. Vehical Stability Assist.

VSA and DBW are interlinked. If you turn off VSA, the intrusiveness (what little there is) disapears. The intrusiveness mainly trys to keep the wheels from breaking loose on a launch. So if you really want to do a violent launch, turn off VSA.

The only thing that comes close to anoying is the Clutch Delay Valve, since it slips the clutch Unfortunately, this Valve is on all the years that you're looking at.

If you don't like VSA (not VSC), turn it off and it is completely off. I autocross with it off, I always leave it on on the street. It has some quirks that may be labeled as intrusive, but on more than one occasion I did something stupid and it saved me from "embarassment." So it is a compromise, and IMO a good compromise. In any event, you have a choice.

In then end, I agree with CHAZMO, the best S2000 is the one in your driveway. They are all good, no excellent, just each iteration is a bit different.

Couldn't have put it better myself. VSA is great - bottomline is stuff happens. I've seen many a "pro" on here who has owned many RWD vehicles in the past make an honest mistake, misjudgment and spin the vehicle. No one here can claim to have better control over the vehicle than VSA - unless your car is equipped with 4 gas and brake pedals, respectively.

AND...if you don't like VSA, TURN IT OFF!!!!! In autocross istuations, or in spirited driving especially this can be useful. Be glad you don't have a Merc/Lexus/Toyota car with a nagging, annoying, and undefeatable stability control system.

I'd get an 04-05 because (mostly my opinion)...
- 06 wheels are ugly
- 06 seats are ugly
- rear speakers add weight
- airbag button looks ugly and cheap, like it was an afterthought
The rear speakers add weight? You really need to hold one in your hand- probably a couple of ounces as it has a miniscule magnet structure. They might add 1 or 2lb total for all four speakers and the associated wiring.

There is no "airbag button" on the car. It is an indicator lamp that comes on if the weight in the passenger seat is less than what is needed for the bag to function properly. Kind of a nice feature to have if you want to have small kids ride with you. Can't agree on it looking like an afterthought- it is hidden in the vent louvers over the radio and is quite well done and unobtrusive.
