Default prevent HT from being stolen

i dont park in a garage, just got a mugen HT and realized how easy and fast it would be for someone to steal it. i have an alarm but i sleep like a log. naighbors of mine have cameras looking at the streets but just seeing someones car doesnt help much.

anyone have some ideas to prevent a HT from being stolen? some kind of lock?

It has definitely happened before. A hardtop is one of the most desired items to steal on a s2000 actually because of their high market value.

In order to make something secure, anything, be it a car, or a software application, all you need to consider is all the possible methods of theft, and install a countermeasure against the vulnerability.

eg. In the case of your hard top (just an example, I have no idea how the hard top is fixed on), if it uses a particular bolt, change the bolts for something which requires a non-standard tool to undo, or try to apply a locking mechanism to at least one of the bolts (ala wheel locking nuts). It's always a trade off between safety and accessibility.

My 2c. Out of curiosity, how IS the hard top attached? If it's just clips, I'd need a photo to come up with some ideas.

How easy to crack are those steering wheel locks?

Those umbrella type ones that hook round the wheel?

Bolt cutter or small blowtorch would have them off in less than 30 secs. You could kick one off in a matter of minutes. NOT secure for a decent car. Enough of a deterrent to stop the pissheads nicking it just to get home if you have a piece of crap car, but not for a car that a dedicated theif would want. If you really want an extra layer of security, get a quick release steering wheel, and take it away with you every time you leave the car.

I've heard of some type of bar that can be installed to prevent hardtop theft. I haven't seen it, but I know others have confirmed its existence. Hopefully someone will chime in, as I might be looking for a hardtop in a few months too.
