Default problems @ 6500rpm

Soon after I started my car and pulled out of a parking lot I floored it and just when that sweet feeling usually kicks in @ 6500, my car felt like someone pulled the emergengy brake. It happened soon after in second gear this time (as opposed to first). It hasn't happened since. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

Did you have 3 bars on the temp gauge? If not, vtec wont engage.

You are doing harm to the car when you gun it without it having warmed up. Luckily the Honda engineers have thought about this and put in a cold rev limiter at about 6000.

You should wait till 3 bars on the temp gauge before gunning it like that

After some research I agree it was the rev limiter. I will never experience that again! My bad. Can you do any damage by doing what I did? Thanks for the responses!!!!!!!!!

Of course you can do damage. The temperature sensitive rev-limiter prevents any big problems. However, you should really stay below 4,000 rpms until the car is warmed up properly. You see, even when the weather is hot the engine needs some time to reach operating temperature. What possesed you and you floored it straight from start? Give at least the oil some time to warm up and lubricate your engine.

I wish the car had a stock oil temp gauge. I tend to wait about 10 minutes after getting 3 bars before getting it up to the high end of the scale, but ambient temperature makes quite a difference in the speed at which the car warms up.
