Wow, this is crazy! I would be so pissed! Was it full when you dropped it off?

Leave them messages about it to show you are serious. Also like someone said, if they drove that much they had to put gas in it. I wouldn't put any gas in there until it was almost out. Just to get the other gas out.

Destroy their shop reputation on the internet. That'll make you feel a bit better. Also, if you think you have a case, lawyer up. I don't know much about this shit but that kid of mileage is unacceptable. I dropped my car off for some body work and the trip meter didn't even go up .1 miles.

It took them 6 weeks because they probably fixed it in the first week and the owner probably took your car out for a nice drive for the other 5 weeks. Complain to them.

This is true, the body shop I worked at we would take cars to get specialty treatments like pin stripping or interior work or powder coating etc. to a guy and had to drive the costumers car I think maximum 20 miles there and then 20 miles back. Usually if it was ever any farther than that we would contact the costumer and let them know or ask if they wanted it towed for the basic tow fee. Now 300 miles, thats f@#king weird, you could probably take them to small claims court but I really dunno

if they are recommended from your insurance company then complain to your insurance company as well.
they may no longer be recommended if this is not the first complaint.
you can try BBB as well

Funny, but I am more concerned with the extra 5 weeks thatn I am about the 300 miles. I would have picked it up at week 2.

Don't contact them, go there in person. Tell them your plan to go to the BBB and discredit them on the internet.

BBB is next step. A lawyer would charge you more than you could recoup for the 300 miles.

This shop sucks.

So sorry to read your story!

What is your desired outcome here?

So far you've got a bunch of morons suggesting you ruin the shops reputation, and/or get bbb involved. So far you have no knowledge of why the car has so many miles or even asked them about it.

When you got the car back was the work done to the quality you were expecting?
Aside from the time frame was there any other problems?

FYI to you morons suggesting damaging the reputation of the business. If it was my business, and there was a reason for this mileage, you posted such defamation of character on the internet. I would sue your a$$ off, bankrupt you for brand damages and ask for your car as part of the settlement. Actions have consequences, don't act like you can say or do anything without them.

OP on our last accident, the car was in the shop for 3-4 weeks. We drove a rental. A trusted body shop we use put on about 150-175 miles, burned about a 1/2 tank of gas. It was a sedan. All the miles and gas? Driving the car to and from the BEST places to get certain stuff done. Test driving the car after replacing front suspension, and the owner of the car personally taking it home one night so he could put his seal of approval on the car. He also restores classic cars from the 50's and 60's worth more than my home.

I'm going to suggest that you find out more, ignore these morons posting above and worry less about the mileage focusing more on the quality of work preformed. If you came smoking made, found out what happened with me is what happened with you - you look like a total douche which is how these other posters sound like. I hate the world we're coming too, and how the internet makes people think their opinion is worth something.

Damn that sucks! Definitely no possible reason to put that many miles on it! Maybe 10-20 miles idk. Anything else they better tow it if they needed to take it somewhere.
Can't trust anyone in the mechanic and body shop industry anymore it seems. Someone probably took it for some joy rides all over for weeks as you waited the six weeks for it to be finished.
I'd definitely go to the shop and speak to them about this.
