Hi

After 15000KM I had my transmission replaced due to 1-2 crunching/finished clutch. I must admit, I kind of abused the clutch a bit by doing a few 6500 RPM clutch drops but since getting everything replaced I never did a 6500 RPM clutch drop.

I am now at 35000KM and I am having the following symptoms:

1-2 grind (any RPMS) 40% of the time

4-5 grind (higher RPMS) 60% of the time

This really sucks.. Any ideas? Anyone have the same problems? I drove my CIVIC and my TYPE-R just as hard if not harder and never had a problem like this.

Thanks

Rob

I have exactly the same symptoms although maybe not as often, and I have had the TSB work done. They only happen when the gearbox is hot. The 1-2 grind is especially irritating because it happens pretty often on the street. The 4-5 grind only happens at high rpm (just about every lap at TWS) and I have just slowed down the shift to reduce the frequency. It is frustrating and I have not decided I want to go through another year long conversation/disagreement with AHM.. so I am just living with it for now.

Knock on wood, my 4-5 is fine.

As for the 1-2, any time i try to shift a notch faster then average, khhhhhht and after that it happens more often untill i let the car cool.

I'm getting my TSB work for the syncros and the clutch done on Tues. No 4-5 but the 1-2 is a pain in the ass.

I've also started to notice a click/clunk/creak from behind my right ear. It happens most often when I start from a stop, come to a stop or alternately punch and release the throttle in 1st at very low speed. I hope my diff isn't screwed. It seems to be getting worse.

I'm in for the second time on the 1-2 grind. The regional rep told me they were aware that there were still problems with a small percentage of cars after the first fix. It seems that if the fix was done early, as was mine, Honda may have come out with a slightly differant set of parts. I think what he was tring to say is that Honda took out bad parts and put new bad parts in. Supply chain problem.
We'll see what happens.

Is this, 1-2 tranny grind something Honda has fixed in the 2001 model?

s2kmtl,

I don't think that dropping the clutch at high rpm's encourages the 1st to 2nd gear grind.
