I'm really close to buying my Spa Yellow Pearl Honda S2000, but I live in portland Oregon. I was just wondering if anyone has had any problems with rain compromising the soft top in any way. I appreciate any help in this matter. Thanks in advance.

Mine is still a couple of weeks old, but I did drive it in the rain today. We had a medium downpour at times and the car seemed to hold up well. No leaks. All I did so far was give it a good treatment with 303 protectant about a week prior, but I think that does not have any "waterproofing" capabilities. The roof of the car is a bit narrow compared to a coupe or sedan, so rain gets in that way when the door is open.

I would also suppose that leak prevention would also depend on the proper periodic maintenance of the rubber seals to preven them from drying out.

 

Horrible winter in the NE this year. Lots of rain, very heavy at times, and snow. The roof does not leak! Don't let 'that' be an issue.

 

Just no car wash.

Rain wouldn't damage it, but prolonged periods of rain and sun will fade it. I live in "Ichiro town" and it rarely rains here. My top is still pretty new after one year.

 

Do expect to get your leg soaked whenever you open the door or roll down the window. The roof dumps all the water right above the window.

 

Actually, I've had the pleasure of seeing a cross-section of my softtop a few months ago (when it was slashed) and it resembles your tire more than it resembles your clothing (unless you are into rubber goods). It's more likely to be damaged by sun and heat than by water.

If only you could travel back in time 15 years to let them know!

 

I won't run my S2000 thru a car wash with brushes but routinely run it thru the touch-less types. High pressure water will seep past the window seals where the hinge is over the side windows but simply holding a towel there catches the little that comes thru. Been in rain storms heavy enough for the car to hydroplane and there's no leakage. I doubt my experience is unique.
