I have a friend who thinks that the S2000 is a "common" car on the road. They think that there are more s2000s on the market than there are 350Zs. Does anyone know the production statistics and the sales statistics. Would appreciate any info you have. The S2000 is clearly a more rarely seen car than the 350Z.

it's between 7,000 and 9,000 a year starting in 2000.




and the 350Z. 12,000 this year alone so far. 14,400+ last year. there are more 350Z's out there than S2000's. large reason for this being the S2000 is hand built, while the 350Z is a mass production vehicle. this information from www.nissannews.com

The s2000 is not "hand built" ie each panel is not shaped by hand. It may however be hand assembled.

right. it's not built by hand from scratch. but it's hand assembled.

 

in toronto, I'd say the ratio pf 350z:S2000 is about 10:1

and I can't see price being a main reason, I think more people buy the Z because it has more features and is easier to drive. The S is geared more to the enthousiasts

 

that's funny because my gf and i kept a running tally for a while about how many s2k's we saw per G35. closer to the galleria it was 10 G35's per S2k but on the north side it is probably closer to 7:1.

 

To be truthful, the average S probably costs less than the average 350z. Yes, you can get the base model for $27,500 or something... but you can also get the track/touring/convertible models well above $35,000. I don't think price is a factor.

What IS a factor is the fixed roof, hatchback, and auto tranny that you can get with the 350z. People who want a "cute sports car" without any sacrifices buy the Z
