Projected value of S2000 after 8 years.
It seems to me the longer you own your present car, the less your car depreciates. I think it will depreciate and then level off. I think I am going to keep driving mine for at least 10 years. That means my cost would be$3,000 per year which amounts to $250 a month. This is already excellent. If I can sell it for $5,000 at the end of 10 years, I would have paid about $208 per month for use of the S2K.
According to KBB, for an S2000 in "Good" condition and private party sale:
MY05, 15k miles - $23,545
MY04, 30k miles - $21,570
MY03, 45k miles - $19,725
MY02, 60k miles - $16,725
MY01, 75k miles - $14,695
MY00, 90k miles - $12,265
My take on those numbers is that an eight year old, 140k mile S2000 in good condition will indeed have a private party value of about $10,000. After the initial hit of $10k for a year-old car, price seems to go down about $2k to $3k per year.

Cars like these won't drop as low as miatas. They're too limited production and someone will always be willing to pay more. I don't think you'll see an S drop under 10K until after 2010. I consider the M3 to be in the same situation, 95 M3's with 150K plus miles still rarely drop under 10K despite being nearly 11 years old now.
Of course the M3 did cost 10 grand more new but still....

I was going to stay the stock route to improve the resale value incase they brought out a monte carlo blue S2000 later on, but then they made all those changes (soft suspension, stability control, 8k rpms, etc....) so I figured I'm not going to be getting a new S2000 and I got the 4.56 gears. Not that I would sell this car, I don't think I would ever sell my S2000, but if I did, anyone think adding the 4.56 gears has hurt my resale? (everything else stock, only the gears being the mod)
