proper breakin period
Read your owners manual, it's a very informative source for everything about the car. For break in it states keeping the RPM's under 5500 for 600 miles, after that, it's driver's preference. Try the search function, many threads discuss these issues. Hope that helped.

Since this is MY car and I paid for it, I have to do what I think is best. Personally, I felt that VTEC'ing at 600 miles was too soon for my comfort zone so I changed oil and filter at 1400 miles and then VTEC'd. Maybe I babied the engine a little too much....I don't know for sure, but I feel comfortable with my plan. Don't get me wrong, I didn't drive it "granny style" for the first 1400 miles, I just drove normally and gradually built my redline to about 5500. You do what you think is best. I just didn't think it wise to VTEC with dirty oil.

Your engine won't know the difference of 20 miles. Most industrial engines and all marine and aviation applications go by "hours" anyway, not by miles or KMs. I serious doubt that an owner who drives his new car on the highway to his home 600 miles away is any better or worse off than the guy who does his first 600 miles over several weeks sitting in stop and go traffic (in terms of "break in").
The stuff from Honda is a guideline. Use a bit of common sense and you'll be just fine. "Over-cautiousness" may take away some of the fun but I doubt it will kill anything OR make it last that much longer. What counts is that it doesn't make you lose any sleep over it.
