Default Pros & Cons of ITBs

I am thinking of going with 50mm ITBs and I have a couple of questions: Are there any gains to be made? Is there a need for a piggy back or differant control unit? Are they more for track use or will they work well on a daily driver with some sprited back country road driving?

They do look good, but I don't want to spend money just for looks.

They are much better suited for the track. On the street you're going to want to use some type of filter or cover, which will reduce gains greatly and sound as well.

Unprotected ITB horns on the street equals trouble - who knows what crap you'll end up sucking into your motor. While they are very bling and cool, I don't consider them practical enough for street use and the gains are much lesser than a supercharger - which is the price range you'd be entering after EMS, at least for a used kit.

Jimmy:

Search under the JDM forum - you will get much more information from the few members that actually have them - search for the ITB thread.

I have them - best sound in the world, 26HP gains in the mid range but a royal PITA to get running right. the install is very involved and makes it quite hard to go back to stock. I would not recommend this mod.

Only get ITB's after you've fully investigated this topic in the JDM tuning forum. There's about a half dozen of us that have them on our DD, and yes, it can be done, but it is expensive, and very time consuming to get completely dialed in.

How hard is it to maintain the tune on the car. Weather changing and what not...

I have still not heard what the S2k sounds like with ITB's. Is it really a darastic change?

it is unreal. race car sound without being annoyingly loud - I was measured at Laguna Seca doing 97 decibels.

i've heard online recordings but they don't do the real thing justice.

you have to tune the car and mechanically tune the ITB's at least once a year - depends on your usage, location, purpose of use...
