it'd be quite embarrassing going uphill and you get stuck.

yeah good thing there are no hills in florida, the only real problem would be coming out of the boat ramp and having the rear tires slip

maybe... but my S is sure as hell not going anywhere with a trailer strapped to the back... not enough torque
I'm glad I didn't hear about this torque issue before I put 5,000 towing miles on my S to get to Divisional and National level autocrosses.

I used to tow a tire trailer behind a Fiat X1/9. It had 1/3 the torque that the S2000 has.

My tire trailer is about 500lbs fully loaded. Car tows it just fine.

100% agreed with Conedodger. I towed a 600 lb trailer to autocrosses with my Miata! The only time I even know the trailer is there is when first getting rolling from a stop and when braking hard. Otherwise it's fairly invisible.

It's been to California and back from Florida.

I have pulled this over 14,000 miles so far with the S...

I'm curious on the trailer hook up and set up? What kind of trailer is that?

Let's be clear, it was a small lake boat.

A full size power boat is something like this:

(That's easily 15k lbs., and would need to be pulled with a dually)

Yeah, a vehicle driven gently can pull more than the stated "tow rating". Heck, an unmodified Toyota Tundra towed the frickin' space shuttle for 1/4 mile. All 292,000 lbs of it, while in in 4WD low. Okay, that's an extreme example, but putting 1k lbs. behind a car like the s2k isn't going to break anything, so long as you're judicial with the clutch/throttle operation, and avoid sudden maneuvers and hard breaking.
