Default Pulled on the way home!

Coming home today, tooling down Hwy 52S just north of I-40 in a 55MPH zone. I spot this yellow S2K so I want to say hello. So I pass a few cars and get up beside them just in time to watch them take the I-40 exit. They never see me. I drive on.

About two minutes later I see the blue lights in the rearview. Seems I passed this unmarked Winston Salem policeman while catching the yellow stook.

The standard license and registration check was conducted. I got out of the car while he checked my tag and inspection. He then asked me if I knew how fast I was going. I told him I wasn't really paying attention as I was trying to catch the yellow. He then told me I was going between 64 and 70 in a 55. He then asked if I had any citations recently. I told him no (last ticket was over 15 years ago). He told me to be careful and to watch my speed. And that was it.

Not sure why I didn't get the ticket. Low speed could have been it. No radar (V1 was quiet the entire time). My lack of citations. Not sure. Just lucky I guess.

I'm just happy that the record is still clean because he had me dead to rights.

The cop liked your honesty, Most of them do

I've been driving I-40 from Wilmington to Asheville regularly for the past 4 years and the Police in Winston-Salem seem to have always been pretty easy to deal with. Greensboro and that traffic/road cionstruction mess, Is a whole different ordeal.

I agree...he didn't have you on radar and guessed at your speed because you were in and out.

That is probably why he said somewhere between 64-70...and didn't give him a ticket. He probably just pulled him over to scare him a little and give him a warning.

But, a cop doesn't have to time, radar, or pace you if it is obvious you are breaking the speed limit. The basic rule always applies. If you fly by a cop going the other way at like 100 he is gonna know it whether or not he has his radar on!!

I agree with speedy. The cop didn't have his radar on or couldn't get behind you and match your speed before timing you.

I think he was behind me for about two miles so I'm guessing he was pacing me, if not from right behind then definitely from a distance. Two other things that I thought about: we were coming up on the switch to 65MPH and we were also approaching the Winston Salem City limits. I guess he didn't have much of a choice but to let me off.

He was nice. No arrogance, etc. My first experience with Winston Salem police. I'm glad it wasn't a state trooper. In my life I've had plenty of run-ins with police for traffic violations. Of all these, two of them were with state troopers and these two troopers account for the only two tickets I have ever gotten. NC State troopers do not cut me any slack. Of course I can't blame the one, I ran him off the road. Long story.
