Default Purchasing a new s2000 ... negotiating ...

Hi guys,

I got rid of my previous daily driver and am now in the market for a new s2000. I will be using it as a daily driver in Ontario, so Dunlop Winter Sport M3's will be a must

I will be purchasing the car in either Michigan or New York.

What is a fair price to purchase either a new 2007 or 2008 s2000?

Is it realistic that I can get a new 2007 with rear spoiler for $29k before taxes? How about a 2008 model? The market seems very soft for these cars right now.

I plan on purchasing in November - should I push my purchase date back to get an even better deal?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

dealerships in nj is going 5000 off from msrp so basically around 29. If you wait to long you might not be able to find one... especially in the color you want.

What do you guys figure the availability will be like in mid-November. Has anyone else purchased a new s2000 at that time?

Also - I would like the rear spoiler. Can I negotiate on this Looks like MSRP is ~$1000.

Cheers

at this point in the s2k's life, it's a buyer's market. throw out some ridiculous offers and see what you can get. you may get a better deal nearing winter.

Will do ... I am stuck out of the country until Nov 1st so I can't really start hunting till then.

Few more questions - (sorry if these sound stupid, I have never gone this route to purchase via telephone/email before, and want to make sure I have all my ducks in a row).

- For those of you guys who did it, did you just send out a shotgun email approach listing the specs of the car you wanted without price? That's what I am planning on doing, and calling back the people that actually reply.

- Second, if you guys were in my position, would you be trying to grab a 2008 instead? Would the discounts be similar? Does anyone know when the 2008's will be arriving?

Cheers

In Canadian dollars, you should be able to get one for under $49K with a spoiler if you're a good talker.

If you are really ready to buy and can find a way to buy cash, head south of the border and pick up a US car and save a HUGE amount.

I am paying cash, and buying south of the boarder... I know of the price differential (that is why my first post says I am purchasing in NY or MI) - and hence why I am looking for the going rates of cars in the USA

So - anyone have any opinions on negotiating a 2007 as opposed to 2008? Looks like I can shoot for 29k for a new 2007... what do you figure I could do on an '08?

Cheers

I'd figure invoice, but not a ton cheaper than that unless somebody is looking to move them before taxes hit. I dont know when that happens.

The 08s have a bit stiffer suspension, new gauges, and a few other tweaks. To me, getting the color I like is more important than the MY changes! I got my red MY06 this summer for $27,500 new. I was at the time offered an '07 for $30,500 locally, and I heard of '07s for $29,000 here and there, but 06-07 had no changes and I want to keep it for a long time, so a few grand in my pocket was what I preferred.

One thing I would check is warranty coverage on a US vehicle brought into Canada. This spring my buddy wanted to buy a Honda Pilot from the U.S. and bring it to Alberta. Honda Canada said they would not honour (honor for our US readers) the US warranty in Canada. They said they consider these "grey" vehicles (gray for our US readers). Honda Canada is doing this to protect their Canadian dealers who are in an uproar over Canadian buyers going to the US to get their vehicles (hmmmmm, why don't you Canadian dealers lower your price to reflect current market conditions?????). Anyway, my point is, if you live close enough to a dealer in the US this may not be an issue but we're almost 5 hours away from a US dealer so no having the warranty honoured is a huge issue. If you live close enough to the US border and a US dealer then you can ignore my post.

Hope this helps.
