this morning i vtec-ed without looking at the tachometer (on 2nd gear). i am afraid i might hit the redline without me knowing it. what's the role of rev limiter? any adverse effects on the engine if i redlinle it once in a while?

No, it's there to protect you from doing any adverse effect on the engine. Just don't do it constantly and you should be fine.

A: No, the rev limiter is there to keep you from making a mistake as stated above.

However, if you are in 5th and want to downshift to third and accidently end up in first, the electronic rev limiter cannot help you. This is known as a Mechanical Over-rev and will likely result in serious dammage that will NOT be covered under warrenty.

I was under the impression that is impossible to do any damage to the engine if you redline (excluding the downshift redline, of course). It is my understanding the if you go too far into the red, the fuel cut-off will kick in, and this will prevent any engine damage.

Is this correct, or am I misinformed?
