Default Question for 2004 Owners

Just got my 04 - wow, what a rush! Got a question: when I start my car, it sounds like a hear a slight "thump" from the engine . Not sure if that is the starter or what (cams?). Anybody else have this too?

I am just inclined to think that this engine, being so high sprung, starts slightly abruptly and stops the same way. Make sense at all? I don't think it's an issue - as typical I am just being overly sensitive to everything when it's new. Thanks!

Just got my 04 on 2/14.

I have not heard a thump at start up.

But it is also not the quietest car at startup either.

I have owned three S2000's and they all have an initial torque rebound when the starter is engaged.

Not sure what it is, I suspect it is some sort of natural rebound of a mass of metal moving in one direction balancing itself out.

Yeah, that sounds like what I am hearing and feeling - it just feels like it has to work hard to gather momentum...and as I mentioned, when you turn the engine off it feels like a shake/thump too. Thanks, I feel a bit better

I have an 04 and I get a transmission clunk when I try to put a gear in gear before it engages... my friend's cobra does that.

Also, when I turn off the car, anyone notice it doesn't shut off right away? Like it makes a hell of a lot of noise and vibration? I wonder if its just mine?

My '04 does make noise and it is shaking every time I turn off the engine. I hope that it is normal with all S2000.
