Default Question about gears

My car is currently stock but i was thinking about getting 457 gears but i heard it makes a loud whining noise when in motion, was wondering if there was a way around the noise(cousin has a tool making shop, maybe a part i could make to put in to prevent the noise)

the noise is the nature of the gears. it's a harder metal made to withstand more power/abuse/etc. the noise is made basically by the way the pinion and gear connect to each other. there is no way around the noise.

the noise varies with each car.

mazda 4.44 and kia 4.77 shouldn't make noise, but they are weaker.

"weaker" is relative. The only gear failures discussed have been due to bad installation and not a problem with the gears. I've had the 4.77 for over a year without problems. Italianbuckwheat, who was spraying, hasn't had any problems either.

well "weaker" for me is unaccepetable. I race my car at the 1/4 mile (clutch dumps) and also plan on going FI next year. Also MANY people who have the 4.77's get them cryo'd since they are weaker.

plus the 4.44 were not enough of a change for me, and the 4.77 was too much. the revs at freeway speeds were much higher than I wanted to be.

Hey... we've already beat this to death in another thread
so before this gets outta hand again, I'll simply say that anyone interested in gears should research the topic and ask people that have the gears, instead of listening to misinformation.
Cryo treatment was offered b/c of issue of higher rpms for a sustained period of time and not b/c the gears are weak.
Rick's has you all brainwashed into thinking that the old 4.77s are somehow inferior and prone to break. Well, they are not. The few that have failed were due to bad installation. MANY hard drivers (Pinky, Italianbuckwheat (both spray), vapors2k, myself) have not had problems with either highway cruising or hard driving...including clutch dumps. The ONLY real advantage of the 4.57 is they can used with FI....that's it.

i know we've covered it. hehe. like i said, it was simply personal preference. with the racing and FI I wanted the stronger gear. that's my choice/opinion.

Don't forget, Xviper is also running 4.44s with his SC with no problems. I just picked up a set and will install soon.

Keep in mind though the 4.44 gear is probably stronger than the 4.77.

I want 4.77's in a bad way, But I'm afraid they won't be strong enough for the abuse I'll put them through. I don't dump the clutch at all, but they would see a lot of track time. In fact, within the next year my car may become strickly track car. I wish Richmond would make a 4.77
