Looking at Honda sales figures for the US (both at http://www.vtec.net and in the press releases at Honda's website) I put together this:

Sept 1999 = 1,022
Oct 1999 = 1,019
Nov 1999 = 760
Dec 1999 = 599
Jan thru Sept 2000 = 5,267

That adds up to a grand total of 8,664 MY2000 S2000 cars sold! But I'm not sure if these figures include all MY2000s imported to the States. Does anyone know if these number reflect sales from Honda to the Dealers OR do they show actual U.S. cosumer purchases??? Because I know not all MY2000s were sold to consumers by Sept 30, 2000! I am trying to determine exactly how many MY2000 were exported to the US.

As I recall they cannot count it as a sale until they actually fill out the paperwork identifying the consumer.

There is something called a "retail delivery registration" or RDR that dealers do via computer. This logs the sale and shows AHM who bought it. From this registration, AHM knows who to send the "new owner survey" to. It also allows them to track each dealers performance etc.

That's what I was afraid of. If this is indeed true, then there will be no way to use the sales figures to determine the total number of MY2000s exported to the US (since some of them still aren't sold)! Oh well...

Does anyone know when the first MY2001s were officially "sold"? I think it was late Oct. or early Nov. If the later, then I should at least count all the October sales (245 of 'em) as MY2000 cars. That would put the total to almost 9,000 MY2000 S2000s just in the US.

blks2000,

I'm sure you were reported, the surveys are random, approximately 80-90% get them. All dealers want to report their sales, because it helps with allocation. If you still "show" cars in stock, how can you cry for more inventory? Interestingly enough, in certain cases, car sales of one type of car "earn" you more of another "hot" selling one. That's why we are still ordering 2 door integras, these sales will earn us RSXs.

Why not look at actual production numbers from the plant? This site will also give MY data cut in points as well as Type 5 sales data. It does not cover Europe. When you get there select "S2000" then scroll down to sales data. Data is accurate through February of 2000.
