Default Question about this S2000 and XM reciever

Hey guys, soon to be first time S2000 owner. Been a BMW guy all my life but not a big fan of their newer cars and I've given up hope of finding a nice, clean E36 M3 without having to pay twice tax value. The S2000 gave me chills on my first drive, so....

First off - 2004 NFR with 27,000 miles for $16k, pretty good price right?

Next, any idea how the XM reciever is attached to the trunk in the picture below? That thing has got to go ASAP. I don't see any cables coming from it so I'm wondering how this thing is run. Is it a wireless reciever with double sided tape or magnets?

Thanks for the help!

Two 10mm hole, torque @ 11 lb-ft for the nut is how the antenna is attached to the trunk.

Man, best bet is going to be finding a used NFR trunk. That hole is going to need to be filled and painted over.

Are you kidding me? Who in their right mind would drill holes in the trunk for XM radio? Oh well, guess the search continues....

Yeah I think it is. That plastic block on the back looks awful and when I remove it there will be 2 10mm holes in my trunk. Not dropping 16k on a car with holes in the sheet metal.

mine only had 1 hole through the trunk and i ended up selling the trunk to a friend and getting a CF trunk. Just get paint to match it and paint it red. The wires are run though the structure of the trunk, kind of hidden but they are there. Just buy it! lol

I'd look at painting the antenna (matching nail polish) until I become so obsessed with it I fixed it properly...just a thought.

Only if the car deal is right.

Have the seller knock some $$$ of the price for your trouble with the antenna.

Is 16K for an 04 with 27,000 miles good enough deal to have to deal with damn plastic block?

Around here that’s a loaded question.
No matter what price you state, you will hear that:
“You can get one cheaper, just look on Craigslist”.
“I got one for a lot less $$$ than what you are paying plus they gave me a pony and balloons on my birthday“.

YOU have to decide if the year, mileage, condition and removal of the xm receiver all add up.
A quick check of Edmunds has the private party value at $15,200 for my zip code.
imho-That would be a good and realistic place to start.
