Default Question about spring.....

Ok guys......I think its time to drop my car. Now, I havent even done any research about springs yet (cant afford coilovers at the moment)....so....

1. I want to drop my car so that the rear tire (top) is about level with the fender......1 finger gap or a little less even.

2. Ride to remain decent, stocklike prefered.

3. The money question, are there ANY springs I can get so as not to blow my shocks??? If I do lower , how long will my shocks last???

Thanks for the help......

With that much drop, your struts are gonna go. You may be able to get a year or a bit more out of them (assuming "standard" driving distances), but eventually they'll need to be replaced. I don't think the stock struts can handle much more than 1"-1.3". I've heard of some people lowering 1.3" on Espilir springs, or 35mm on kg/mm race springs, but I think the consensus is that the struts will wear out eventually with that much drop.

I believe that you can get away with up to an inch on stock struts without damaging them. I think your best choices if you're willing to go with less drop are kg/mm supersports, H&R's, or eibach's at a 1" drop.

I'm not sure about the longevity of the shocks with the kg/mm's, but quite a few people stick with (and like) the two together. I have the kg/mm race springs, and in the rear I can get one finger in. Since the front gap is higher in stock form, with the kg/mm's I can get 1 1/2-2 fingers. I will be purchasing koni's next year (when I'm done with school and making the big bucks ). The ride is so close to stock, you will hardly notice.

I highly recommend buying your springs from bulletproof! Excellent customer service!! One of the best buying experiences.

Try groupbuycenter.com; I believe someone is having a buy on them right now for ~$120 or so.
