well i've been looking into s2k's lately, and i'm not a fan of convertibles at all. but as much as i hate convertibles, i still just have to love the s2k.

so if you guys could share anything about keeping the cloth tops clean and in working order, that'd be great. and also how they stand up against rain.

thanks in advance to all those who respond.

edit: i'd love to get an oem hardtop, but that would 2,000dollars into the future =P

they work great!
personally , i use vinylex one the top
if not , then i wash the top just like i wash the car
and sometimes , if im not bothered to wash the whole car , i wipe the soft top with a damp cloth
no comment on the rain , as we rarely get those

I was in the same boat as you. I never owned a convertible before and I was nervous about the rain and wind. Well, I've had it for about a month now and I can honestly say it is EXTREMELY quiet when it is up and not a drop of rain has seeped through. Sometimes I foget that its a canvas convertible and not a fixed roof!

303 Protectant makes a great kit for cleaning and protection of the top.

The convertible top on the S200 works flawlessly as far as my experience goes. Up, or down, from a standing stop in about 8 seconds.

As far as maintenance goes, rub a little 303 Ultraviolet Protectant on it every 6 months and it stays in brand-new condition.

Just so you know, the top isn't cloth or canvas. It's viny. So make sure you get the correct protectant for the top. Personally, I use 3M's 303 cleaner and vinyl top protectant. Both work well. You can find a variety of items for your car at www.properautocare.com.

Lest you incur the wrath of a huffy lawyer, 3M does not make the 303 line of protectants - separate company altogether.

But I love the 303 products, including the 303 Protectant for vinyl, which avoids th shiny, greasy look.

Rip the top and motors out, put on a hardtop. Problem solved.
