What kind of advice do you want exactly? Color, how to handle the dealer for price? Please be a bit more specific.

I want to order a silver with red leather, should put a deposit down. How can I make sure my deposit is refundable. Should I put a deposit down at more than one dealership.

If you have more than one dealer near you, visit all of them and find out who will give you the best deal on the exact one that you want. Your deposit should be refundable but make sure you get that in wirting by at least the sales manager.

Also, the silver for 2002 is different than the current color so make sure you like it before you order it. It should be a brighter silver rather than the grayish silver currently available.

mfabry -

If I'm not mistaken, the new silver is "Sebring Silver," which is the same color that was available for the older (1997 and 1998's for sure) Honda CR-V's (I know because I had a 98!) It is definitely lighter and brighter than the current "Silverstone Metallic" (which more of a gray to me). Here is a link to a picture of one:

I ordered mine and never asked if the deposit was refundable. If you do ask, the salesman may think that you are not serious. As long as the salesman can guarantee MSRP and no forced options, you can put your deposit down (I put $500 down).

I would demand a refundable deposit clause be written into the contract. This has little to do with whether or not you are a serious buyer. Always protect your own interests!

Are you willing to walk away from the car of your dreams and your hard earned money if you were to lose your job, for example? How would that make you feel?

BTW: I just cancelled an order on an '02 Blue after the dealer that sold me my '00 S2K at MSRP decided that I have to buy every option at MSRP. He violated the contract which clearly states: "No Options and also refundable deposit". No sweat! I am going to buy somewhere else, probably in the middle of Winter, at my price.

If you are insecure with your job and afraid that you would lose it any day, maybe you should not buy a new car then. If you have to use every penny you have to get the car, maybe you should not get it.

Sorry, man. S2000 is not my "dream car", it is my "reality". My dream car is something I cannot afford, like a Ferrari 360.
