Next week I'm going to tint my side windows with 15% tint.
My question is to you guys that have the rear glass window. Have you tinted the rear glass window and experienced wear on the film from raising and lowering the top?
I'm not sure if I'm going to tint the windshield because of laws and the possiblity that my insurance company may elect to not pay a claim.
Ken, to answer your first question, I have no wear and tear on my rear glass window tint. I've had mine done for a year now. With regards to the windshield, I have a very light tint on mine, and have encountered zero problems with law enforcement. But then again, I live in Miami where cops tend to be more lenient. My personal experiences have been the further north you go in FL, the more ignorant and arrogant cops are. Also I've never heard of an insurance company refusing to pay on a claim due to a tinted front windshield. That's absurd. But God forbid if anything should happen, just rip off the tint and problem solved.
Mav, do you have jpegs of your tint? I'm moving to Miami in August and was going to tint my windows up here but wasn't sure how dark I can go with regards to your local "can do's." You actually have your front tinted? Never thought anyone could get away with that one. Would be interested to see a pic.
I tinted mine to prevent fading of my dash. And I just asked a friend of mine whose a Metro-Dade cop, and although he acknowedges that the front windshield tint is illegal, insurance companies cannot refuse to pay out on a claim because of it. Also I just looked over my State Farm policy and no where does it say that having front windshield tint or any mods would void any claims. I understand why its illegal to have a tinted front windshield but why would insurance companies refuse to pay out on a claim because of it? What's their reasoning? It seems absurd to me. Maybe its just that they refuse to pay to retint the front windshield (since its illegal) that was damaged from an accident or maybe they won't cover the windshield itself, which even that is questionable, but not any other damages.
I have 20% all the way around and the back window has been fine. Mine was done about six months ago and so far there have been no issues at all. I say go ahead and tint the rear window. If I had a MY00 or MY01 I would not tint the window but the glass is another story.
