Question for yellow s2000 owners
I checked out a 2008 S2000 yesterday at the dealer. It looked good, except the front and rear bumpers seem to be off just a bit. The front bumper seemed to also have more orange peel then the rest of the car. I might have just been seeing things, but yea. I'm pretty sensitive to this because my current car is a imola yellow GTI and the bumpers haven't matched from day one. Whenever I got them repainted I'd hope they'd match the rest of the car, but never did.
So is this the color's fault or should the bumpers be a 100% match to the rest of the car?

That's the car's posting.

The Bumpers normally do not match(color) to the car. The Mirrors and Door handles also. On 2004 to 2006 or 7 there where some that had not so perfect bumper fitment. One way to see if they have been paineted is , all S2000s have a Tab to the driver side of the front bumper that has a VIN sticker, the rear bumper towards the passenger side inside the trunk area, if you see where the 4 clips are, there is also a VIN sticker. If they are painted over or are not there that means they are replaced. EVERY panel on the car should have the same VIN sticker on it.

To the right of the hood release it is along the black seal from the hood to the bumper4 inches away from the fender. There will be a tab the sticks out that the sticker will be on. If the sticker is not there it will be a tab with nothing but paint on it
Yeah i've heard about some not matching 100% perfectly from the factory, but it's not really noticable. Like the guy above me said, just open the hood, and to the right of the hood latch there will be a tab sticking off of the front bumper and it should have sticker with the VIN # on it. If it has been repainted the tab will be there, but there will be no sticker and it will be the same color as the car.
I'd like to turn this into a two part question.
The car was in the show room, and the clutch felt like it had some slop near the top. It wasn't a linear feeling. I also remember some noise when I played with the clutch.
Is this normal? Or is this something I should pay attention too? I'll hopefully test drive another 2008 tonight so I have something to compare to.

The VIN tag should still be present if the bumper was only repainted...any decent body shop should mask off the tag. Some owners have their bumpers repainted due to stone chips, scrapes, etc. It doesn't necessarily mean the car was in an accident. With a good eye just about any paint-work is noticable. A touch of OCD helps in these areas.

I recently had my front bumper resprayed on my spa and it doesn't look anywhere near that bad. Granted the camera will pick up things differently than when you're looking right at them but the bumpers on that car look TERRIBLE in the pictures. The paint match is obviously off. If they came from the factory like that, Honda should be ashamed.
Now I know that yellow is a really hard color to match, but any reputable shop could get it closer than that. How is the carfax on it? Did it spin around and hit a guard rail at all or anything?
I'm way to anal to be happy with that, sorry.

my front is pretty close in color match but it is still original paint but my rear got hit a while ago and the first time they painted it, it was sooooo off it was horrible. So they painted it again and it was still bad but a little better so we complained again and they finally sent it to a different shop of theirs that works of nicer cars and they got it to match better but still not perfect. They said there was a little purple they had to ass to the paint mix or something like that.
