quick ap1 vs ap2 question..
I was wondering if this is possible, instead of buying an Ap2, buy an Ap1 to save the extra money, then upgrade the Ap1. Can it be faster than any regular AP2?
What cheap upgrades to get in order to be faster
I'm looking for acceleration and cornering improvement?
Please list the aftermarket parts & price.
I was thinking for acceleration improvement, intake-$300 & exhaust system-$700 is good enough to defeat the Ap2.
For cornering,... I'm not sure, need you guys opinion.
sorry for question such a immature question out of no where, my buddy and I are discussing about this topic and I really want to know the answer quick to see who's right or wrong..

AP1 and AP2 are pretty much equivalent, speedwise. In a straight line and at autoX/track. Except CR, which will have a handling advantage.
With these cars, be aware that money spent on intake/exhaust will net you very little in the way of hp gained per dollar spent. And if you pick the wrong components you can easily *lose* power with intake/exhaust mods.

I'd highly suggest spending some track time to get to know the car and to mod the driver. Track time is always overlooked and yields the best improvements in most cases (and is transferable to other cars).

^^Yeah that.
The quick answer is that without a FI or higher NA output approach, the cars are nearly identical. As stated, drivers make a world of difference.
Funny, when I was putting up a reply to the S2k legacy thread, it hadn't occured to me, unlike now, that perhaps the true legacy of the S2k is that it not only comes in as optimal performance system, but it requires optimal driving to obtain the best results. The legacy is - the S2k is a true drivers car that will either teach you amazing things, or break you as a driver.

There's nothing you can do to an AP1 that you can't do to an AP2 to make it faster - why exactly do you need to have an AP1 that can beat AP2s? You in some sort of Fast and the Furious movie? Race Wars coming to town?
AP2 has some natural advantages you'd need to overcome - its shorter gearing may or may not be an advantage on a short track, but it will always pull slightly ahead on a 0-60 run, and then the AP1 will catch up until it needs to shift a second later. You can put shorter gearing in an AP1. The AP2 has more rubber, so you'd need wider tires/wheels for grip. The AP2 has revised VTEC so it makes more power in the 3-6k rpm range, and it puts down 10-20 hp more at the wheels, so you'd need bolt ons to get close to that.
The cars are basically identical though - sure, you can make an AP1 faster than an unmodified AP2, just add a supercharger. Simple bolt ons may get you faster on acceleration runs, add bigger tires for cornering, etc.
Unless you race against S2000s for a living, why does it even matter?

Ap1 and Ap2 are so close in straight line and on the track that it's all driver. It is easier for inexperienced drivers to handle an Ap2 on a track. The tires you use have more to do with how fast the car will go around a track than the stock S2000's year. Even a CR with All season tires would loose to a 2000 Ap1 with good tires.
