Default Quick shifting question

Just wanted to correct my shifting habbits when running the car hard. I know your not suppose to clutch all the way down when driving the car hard, but what does it mean when you shift gears and you hear the tires peal out. Are you not shifting quick enough. How about when you hear like a hard thump when you release the clutch.

When your shifting, is it suppose to be smooth and not feel the gear change or are you always going to feel it like pop.

Sorry its a bit difficult to explain but wanted to improve my acceleration in shifting

Read this month's issue of Grassroots Motorsports pg 101.

It is a very good article on extending tranny life and other options.

Bottom line you want to go slowly enough to let the synchros do their job. That doesn't mean a super slow shift, just not bang shifting.

In normal quick acceleration you shouldn't hear a slam sound/feeling when releasing the clutch into the next gear...if your tires chirp between shifts you are shifting/releasing the clutch too fast.
