Default quick turn in

what makes the S turn in so responsive? is it the placement of the wheels, balance of the engine/car and why dont most other cars feel similar?

Frame geometry, ride height, balance, alignment, suspension, tire choice, and the S's awesome steering gear box.

My S has the best steering of every car I have ever driven.

# Stiffen suspension.
# Bigger anti-roll bars.
# Extra-fat rear anti-roll bar.
# Alignment.
# Low profile tires with relatively stiff sidewalls.

Plus:
# SmalLer front tread on your tires

Why would you want to do that?
There will be compromises in other areas.

If you want a faster initial turn-in, stiffer shocks or tires with a stiffer sidewall would be two options. You can also alter the turn-in with alignment (less toe in, more toe out). Just keep in mind that changing the handling in one area (like turn-in) will have effects on the handling under other conditions (like corner exit or straight line stability).

I love the quick turn-in of my MY00 AP1, but it has been shown to cause more than a few drivers some grief. I believe the AP2's are easier to handle under almost any set of circumstances so why change a good thing?

A narrower front tire (on the same width rim, and all else being equal) will give a quicker initial turn-in, because the sidewall will be stiffer (becasuse the bead is more spread out relative to the tread). However, the narrower tires will give less total grip up front, so as the cornering forces build after turn-in, the car will tend to understeer more, and this will slow the later parts of the turn-in. IOW, up to a point, the narrow tire will turn in quicker (all else being equal), but it will have lower limits, allowing the front of the car to slide sooner than it does with wider front tires. Narrower front tires will slow turn-in once they start generating larger slip angles than the rear tires.
