Default racing seats and harnesses

i don't plan on taking my car to the track or anything, but i've always wanted to get some aftermarket seats with racing harnesses because i love how they look. but i have a few questions:

1.) is installing racing harnesses and using them instead of the OEM seatbelt illegal/can the cop write you a ticket for having the harnesses or not wearing your seatbelt?
2.) if i installed racing harnesses, i would want to remove the stock seatbelt system. would this be illegal?

TIA

In case you didn't know, you'd need to get a roll case, too.

A harness is not necessary for a bucket seat on the road unless the bolster make the seatbelt not sit flush against you...i have a sparco evo in my S using the stock belt sand your welcome to come check it out and see if your comfortable

i know i eventually want to get a roll cage as well, so i'd have that before i get the seats and harnesses. but i kinda just wanted the harnesses because i like the look, not because i don't think i'll be held against the seat

if u wear the harness properly u will sacrifice almost all movement in the car...you wont be able to move your head or body enough to adequately observe blind spots from the mirrors...I wouldn't do it for looks personally...ive had em before in my civic and it wasnt to bad but in the S i couldnt imagine i would be happy lol

Do yourself a big favor and drive or ride in a car that has harnesses before you put them in yours "for the look".

If done properly, they are a total PITA to use. If done improperly, they may still be a total PITA and also may kill you.

(I have race seats and six-point harnesses in my track-only S2000.)

I agree with the idea of finding someone with them already and see if you can see in sit in their car and give it a try.

i had roll bar and a 5 point in my 350z before..
i never used the 5th crotch point ever, it was not difficult as some might say it is... cuz all the harnesses r alrdy adjusted so u can just pop in, flip the shoulder ones over, and clip it together on ur lap...
its kind of a hassle for shorter trips, but it takes like a max of 30 second of ur time so its not like u have to get out 5 minutes early everytime...
and for racing seats... if u plan on doing long trips, forget it, and no passenger likes that concept either

really i found this concept in reverse, the sparco harness i only use on the track day,it's coming off first thing after the event.

alot racing seat are very very very comfortable, well, get a good sized seat for your butt and back, reclinable unit if you are really anal about it.

the only thing bad about racing seat on daily is that the shape of the seat make it really hard to get in and out(without brushing the material) with a lowered car and small cabin
