Default racing with top down?

Just curious, how much difference is there in terms of racing witht the top down. For example if one S races another S but one has the top up while the other has the top down, how much would the one with the top up win by up to 100mph?

I did a test on this with myself and my cousin's car. We are dead even through all gears when racing, so we decided to test how the top down effects us.

I had the top down, and he had the top up. We started in 2nd gear at 50 mph. At the end of 2nd, he was a half a car ahead, and at the end of third, proceded to walk about an aditional 1 and a half cars. Now in 4th gear, it was like I was standing still, and he was a good 4-5 cars ahead. We raced to about 120 mph on a bridge.

I couldn't believe how much difference their was....

Unless the two S's are racing on superspeedways, I really doubt the raised or lowered tops will make that much of a difference.

On roadcourses, the cars won't be going fast enough to have drastic differences in aero drag. If anything, the lowered top will have an advantage due to the lowered center of gravity.

Not True! On a road course you will still get over 100 mph and the diff. in drag IS significant. Remember that if the diff. was only 0.1 seconds a lap (and it would exceed that) that amounts to 1.0 seconds in 10 laps which is about 6 car lenghts at 60 mph!

Yeah, plus the top would have a neglible effect on the center of gravity!!!

On PIR (portland international raceway) i could routinely put 7-10 mph on another S2000 when their top was down and mine was up. So I was making about 130, and they were making more like 120-123.
