Default radiator cap question

Sorry if this is supposed to be a common knowledge. I got a 1.35 Mugen radiator cap, but stock is 1.1. Everything about the car is stock, so there's no problem using this radiator cap right? I wouldn't need a better radiator? Please give me some info about this radiator/cooling system/radiator cap thing? Thanks.

A higher pressure rad cap merely holds more pressure and allows the coolant to get much hotter (more pressure) without boiling. It will not make the coolant run any "less hot" than before. If anything, it will let it get hotter if you drive the car hard in very hot climates.
Since this engine has a very efficient cooling system and the coolant temp rarely gets above 100*C, except when travelling in extremely hot weather (over 35*C), a high pressure cap is just ornamental. Of course, if you track the car, it will prevent boil over, but then, in such cases, maybe you should be thinking about things that will keep the coolant temp from getting that high - like a lower stat or a more efficient radiator. Otherwise, you don't need an aftermarket rad cap and if you do use one, you don't need a new rad either.

My friend just kept saying that his coolant temp needle sits a tad lower on his gauge in the MR2 (turbo) with the cap on.
I think your friend is imagining things and perhaps is trying to justify having done this mod. It would defy physics to have happen what he observed.
