Please select from choices above and rate the OEM paint job on your S2000. Thanks for your input.

Anyone who rated the paint quality excellent has never owned a luxury german car. The paint on the S2K chips VERY easily. I had an '88 911 Carrera that had fewer paint chips after 10 years than my S2K after 2. Very poor paint quality

I have to agree on the paint. Chips very easy and also when I look real close I see a lot of little flaws in the paint. Especially the clear coat. I even contacted Honda because I thought there was port damage and after speaking to many people and having the car looked at a couple of times by Honda and independent shops the conclusion was subpar paint job. Honda admits they have certain criteria and sometimes the paint isn't the best but passable. What a shame

I always considered the paint quality of S2000 to be excellent, until it got parked next to a dark blue Lexus 430SC. Even with 2 layers of Zaino, my Suzuka Blue did not measure up to the depth and shine given off by the Lexus. Suffice to say that I now consider S2000's paint quality to be good, but not excellent.

It's better than toyota. One thin coat of paint and one thin coat of clear.

Besides the physical weakness. You can actually see the "waves" from certain angles (i.e. when an object is reflected, the objects are all wavy). I've seen some Porsches and Merc's at the dealerships and let me just say you probably don't need a vanity mirrors with that kind of paint job.

My understanding is that the issue with paint quality has more to do with environmental regulations than any sort of cheapness on Honda's part. 350Z owners are also complaining about paint problems, for example. Which would explain why a Porsche built 14 years ago would have a different quality of paint. Regarding modern Lexi, perhaps they simply do extra layers - the downside to that being extra weight and cost.

Extra weight for mm thickness of paint? I would gladly add the weight for a couple extra coats. I was cleaning my car and accidently pulled the hose too close and chipped the car.

You can also see "orange peel" on almost all of them.
