Thumbs down Rattle discovered - Rick's Voodoo Knob!

So I had this annoying rattle when the engine crossed 6k rpm - it was worse in winter and almost nonexistant in summer. I finally took the time to search it out and discovered my Rick's countersunk knob is resonating of the shift lever and creating this ping rattle that's been driving me crazy!

At any rate, I'm going to add some silicone to the knob to keep it from vibrating against the shifter, but in case anyone else has a Rick's know and has any unidentified metallic rattle at high rpms - check your countersunk shifter.

Interesting, I have had no problems with my voodoo knob to date but I will keep an eye on it.

Thanks

the stock shifter has a slight vibration even in its original form just because it's directly connected to the tranny. it's amplified with most aftermarket knobs. maybe you should use a few layers of Teflon instead of silicone because it'd be much easier to take the knob on/off and it's easily replaced and not messy.

My knob didn't make a peep when I first put it on with blue loctite, but I got in the habit of taking it off to de electronic mods to the car, and now it vibrates....

As for the silicone, I have some never-dry (that I used for my air shields) that will never really dry, and gums up and disentigrates if you ever need to remove it. I figure it will keep things insulated well.

Woah I've been having the same kind of rattle! I'll throw the stocker back on and see if it goes away. My ricks knob has also been on an off many times as it'd been on all 3 of my S's now

FWIW, the instructions that came with my Rick's Black Magnum recommended using anti-seize compound on the threads, and I did. For whatever reason, no rattle with mine.

That is what I use. Works great, easy to remove when necessary.
