Rattleing top, recall? easy fix?
Just test drove a used s2000, the two "clip"(not sure the right name for the thing but release thing, one left and one right) it's rattling and shaking like it's on LSD.
can someone point me to the right direction?
is it a common problem? the seller did mention there's recall on the thingie but i am not too sure but it's kinda fishy..um.
is it a easy fix/adjustment thing or it's doomed?
THANK YOU

There's a TSB out there that specifies how to fix it. It's pretty straight-forward, but maybe time consuming.
I recently had my dealer replace BOTH clips because of the noise; they don't even check TSBs (which would have led them to repair the parts rather then replace them).
My car is still under warranty though.

Basically you just replace the strikers with hardtop strikers, and this will eliminate 95% of the annoyance. The other 5% can be taken care of with shin-etsu grease on all of the rubber seals.
The strikers cost about $60 from hardtopguy.com, and the install is very simple... 15-20 minutes max.

yes you can change them. but i am not sure that it will fix it or not. Did you test drive a new or used s2000?
it was a 01-02 but the thing need some TLC overall, i not sure i will buy it or not.the price is not bad for what it is but it need some work.
if it's a fixable thing then i am not too concern, i am testing another one tomorrow, see if that have the rattle or not.
for my budget, i don't think i could get a used car with warranty
i guess i have to keep looking then, GREAT HELP guys, thanks big time!!
OH WAIT, i notice some of the used s2k have a EPS light on, the seller said he took something off to get rid of the electric steering but what's the worst thing it could be wrong?

Make sure you don't buy parts you don't need.

One solution is to drive with the top down.
Honestly, I agree with what everyone else said. Replacing the strikers (the parts that are attached to the front window frame) will probably not solve the rattle problem. The rattles are probably coming from the latches that are attached to the front edge of the top. My latches also rattle, but since I drive with the top down as much as I can, the rattles do not bother me. There is a fix for the latch rattles, you just have to search for it if you want to get rid of that noise. Good luck with your decision to buy an S2000.

The strikers are what is "grabbed" by the top. They are attached to the windshield frame. I'm afraid they are not the problem. Usually, they are replaced to address a "wind" noise issue, while the "clasp" assembly is replaced for rattling noises. My car had BOTH "clasps" rattling at only 12,000 ,miles.

Yes, and replacing the strikers with the updated hardtop strikers fixed my rattling problems completely. The clasps never rattled in my situation.
and just for the record, how could you tell it's the striker or the latch?
PICTURE? perhaps?
