Default Read end is sooo lose

Is it just me or all s2000's like this? I swear my rear end is as loose as a $2 prostitute.

Most of the time in feels really planted, but then I go around a curve sometimes and just breaks free, kinda makes me afraid to do some serious driving on it. Also in WOT I can break them loose in 2nd.

The odd thing is I havent had it break loose in hard driving, just going around normal curves semi quickly. I just feel the rear end get light but not like im sliding the whole car out.

Thought was tires but check them and they are good as far as tred. Am I maybe expecting too much, I kinda thought the car would be planted to the ground unless I was on the very edge or meaning to throw the back out.

The S2000 is a really good car, but it's not telepathic.

What kind of tires have you got in the back?
Same as in the front?
If your on SO2 in the front, and something else in the back, that could be the problem.

Have you had your alignment checked recently?

I found a TREMENDOUS handling difference by getting a slightly-agressive alignment done on my 2001 S2K.

It transformed the rear-end's tendency to feel (and be) loose, and made it easy to slide comfortably without losing it.

The car has a tight chassis, so alignment is key.

Hi 98,

Do you happen to know what the changes are in your front end alignment that create the improved handling you mention? I'm just curious as I've read many posts that talk about this but don't remember seeing specifics on what they change, toe-in, camber, caster, or some combination?

Makes me wonder why Honda didn't set the car up this way in the first place unless you get some other unwanted side effect.

Drive Safe,
Steve R.

Rearwheel drive is great, and the loose-ness comes with the territory. But that's what gives the S2000 its great sportscar feel.

What i haven't got used to yet (i got mine only a few weeks ago) is the reaction the back-end gives when shifting at 9K from 1st to 2nd. The engine was warm, but the tires not so much. My passenger nearly fouled the red leather seat as the car fish tailed along the road. i love it, but it is not for everybody. My passenger said 'this is not for me'. I can't wait for summer!
