Default rear bumper alignment...help

Is my bumper out of whack? The car is brand new and never been in an accident. There are no scuff marks on the bumper so I don't think anyone tapped me in the back. The local Honda bodyshop states that there is a certain amount of "play" in the bumper and this is normal??

I noticed that my bumper sticks out like that after driving out in the sun for a bit. When i wake up the next morning and i check out my car in the garage, the bumper is aligned perfectly. I guess something is stretching due to the heat.

Fit and finish are not that great on the S. They make it more difficult to line up the panels with the numerous compound curve corners front and rear. Another problem is that the ABS bumpers have a limited number of attachment points. So even if it IS on correctly, the attachment point could be too far away and alows for the kind of flexing that you are seeing.

Just part of the S2K experience. You can peek into that gap and check to see that is ic mounted correctly though. If you can see clips along the lag, then they missed. My body shop had to re-mount the rear bumper twice to get it dialed in.

Good luck,
Hockey

Sometimes I notice that mine sticks out more than other times...I hadn't previously made the ambient temp. connection but that could explain it.

On a side note...this seems to be a fairly common problem for all plastic bumper covers. I was looking at a friends TSX the other day and not only did his rear bumper not line up perfectly, the paint didn't match perfectly either. Supposedly this was a brand new car as well. It was the super red color...

Normal. Just drive it and enjoy it. You can't see it from the driver's seat anyway.

Mine was the same way on the passenger side. The dealer fixed it this morning. We looked at the other two on the lot and they were all out of whack worse than mine. They offered to send it to a body shop if I wasn't happy, but it looks fine now. BTW - it was about 95 outside today.

mine is also new and has the same problem (except not as bad). i decided i was going to keep it the way it is right now since i don't want to have to bring it back to honda and have to leave the car there and risk getting my bumper scratched up if they're not careful. i'll probably end up realigning it myself someday, but it's not a problem right now
