Default Rear bumper - replace or repair?

Hey guys, Looking to see what options I have and what people have done in similar situations. So I have 2 S2000s, an 08 CR BB and 05 SSM, both parked and got swiped overnight. Whoever did that was very special and likely drunk to hit both. Insurance would be $1000 deductible on EACH car. The CR got the worst damage. I know a body shop that does wonders and restored it after a tree fell on it a few years ago. Insurance also paid everything with no problem. Anyways, I want to keep the VIN number as much as possible. It's almost as if someone was telling me I shouldn't have the CR after these random incidences. The 05 I can live with since the bumper was already bent in and uneven before the hit. Does anyone have an idea of pricing and/or repairability of these cracks? Thanks all.

Some people suck! I’m sure it would be cheaper to get a used bumper and respray for the CR but I am with you on fixing the original and saving the vin tag even though it’ll probably be more expensive. I would think it could be salvaged but I am no auto body expert.

A body shop will be able to repair that - I think some fiberglass on the inside, make it stronger and as good as new.

Those are easy fixes for a body shop, I'd just have them repaired.

Find a good body shop that can match the paint. The plastic bumper cover will look a little different than the steel body work and the paint there has probably faded due to age. Good shop can match it.

Contrary to the replies, I went to 2 really great body shops, one of them actually had repaired the CR before with all OEM parts, and both say the bumper is done. UGH. The one that repaired the CR says the VIN has to come off to paint it even if it's repaired and they understand it's a collectible.

I may have to just keep the original on the side, take my time and try to repair it myself. All the while get the replacement bumper paint matched. Sucks.

"The one that repaired the CR" has never heard of masking tape? I'd find a professional body shop not this one. I had my front bumper refinished to get rid of all the stone chips. Body shop removed the bumper, masked the VIN, sanded and painted. and peeled the tape off when the paint dried. Not exactly rocket science.

I had a truck take the corner off the rear bumper of my Triumph TR7 when I was paying for my fuel at the local service station. These are of similar plastic to the S2000, & mine was in 5 large pieces. His fuel tank hit the bumper corner, without touching anything else.

I took it to a plastic welding company, where I was interested to find half a dozen motor bike fairings in being repaired. They showed me a green one, telling me it was the fifth time they had done it. There was more weld than original plastic by the look of it.

They had no problem welding the thing back together, & polishing the outside to look as new. This may have been easier as it was black. They built up a patch of thicker plastic behind each weld to strengthen the whole thing. Cost was list overt A$100.

I’d keep the OEM bumper in storage to show to potential buyers why the VIN doesn’t match, but replace the bumper on the car.

I'm sorry, these are nowhere near destroyed bumpers!! NOWHERE!!

You weld the plastic, heat up and smooth out the parts that may have gotten damaged, reinforce where necessary, if necessary, use some filler and paint. I've seen far more damage to bumpers at my brothers shop than that, and I've watched them repair it as I was curious. It takes some skill, but those are not impossible fixes...or even difficult from what I've seen.
