Default rear cover questions

I just picked up an 03 used and was wondering if rear cover for the top when it's down... is that an option to buy? Does it come with the car when purchased new? Is there an aftermarket one to purchase and does it help protect the cover or is it just for looks....

Thanks

It CAME with your car...

It helps keep dust off your top, and makes the car flow better.

I keep it on when I know I'll be out for a while and the forecast is clear.

From what I have read on this site, alot of people use them as garage shelves to storing them and never use at all. I for one have my S2000 for nearly a year and have never driven with it at all. (it just stays in the garage collecting dust), I guess it depends upon the weather where you live as would be a pain if it started to rain while it was on. I dont drive my S if it looks like rain. I have another vehicle so I could say that my S has only been touched by rain probably twice in 11 months.

Looks good on but it is a waste of time at best. Some would say use it when/if you show your car but a Toneau(<---sp) cover looks better IMO

Use it on a clear day only! it does not take too long to place or remove but if the sky dumps on you all suddenly like, you will soak your interior before you get the top up.

My tonneau cover gets more use than most, but someone on the board will sell it. I think it cleans up the lines on the back of the car, but it's usefullness is seriously diminished with the time it can take to put on or off. Practice will make it doable in a minute or so, but it's still a lot of hassle. I will continue to use mine as much as possible, but other than that, you'll have to get one and decide for yourself.

The biggest problem with it is that it takes too much space in the trunk if you need to take it of while you are out. I bought my car in april used the cover once and then put it on the shelf. you see them on ebay once in a while

I've only used the boot once. I drive my S daily and put the top down 90% of the time so the boot would be a major hassle.

IMO, you don't need it.

Yes, it comes with the car when new and is not an option you pay extra for.

Many times it does not come with the car when purchased used ... mine didn't.

They are sold in the "for sale" forum all the time and also on eBay ... $40-$80.

The early ones ... MY00 and MY01 had four (4) snaps.

The later ones ... MY02 and MY03 only had two (2) snaps.

Both will work on your car ... but look for an MY02 or later if want it to match.
