Default Rear glass replacement for 5K??

Our sole agent for Honda has agreed to replace our existing top ('00 - '01 version) with the new rear glass soft top, but for a hefty sum of S$5k. (US$2.8k). Apparently they have contacted Honda Japan and it is possible to do the conversion. Tried to ask for a discount since there are 3 of us who are pretty keen about it.

What do you guys think ..... go for it?

Will try and post pics if anyone of us decided to go ahead.

cheers

there was a thread before about this. there was a conversion kit that you could buy for like a US$100 or so and buy the top. not sure if they're including labor in that rate. look into it some more. do a search....i'm sure you can find it! good luck@!

No way .... US$100 for the entire top?
Read some of the previous posts, but have not come across any original retro fit by any members yet ...... though there was a 'modified version' with pics :

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...?threadid=75809

using elastic straps and sleeve

any member here who has done the entire retro fit conversion?

just found this after responding to you in the singapore thread.

i think it is worth the S$5k , especially given the value of the S2000 in SIngapore, AND the fact that the glass rear window comes with the rear demister/defogger which will come in very handy in Singapore's humidity.

Why not just get a hardtop for that price? There are plenty of offers at $2100 US.

sorry, i meant you have to buy the whole top (ie. the ones on the 2002) and the KIT to put that on a 2000/01 is about US $100

sorry for the confusion. i've heard about this, but not sure if it panned out or not. i didn't follow the thread since i have a 2002. i was just curious at the time.

yes, a hard top might be better. there are killer deals now, depending on the color you have. some colors are cheaper than others (they say overstocked on some colors). last i heard of this came from wesmaster....his sponsor, i think, posted some great prices about 2 months back. might want to pm him. he has a lot of connections and i think they're sponsors on this board too.

It's probably cheaper to sell/trade your MY2000 - MY2001 car and get a MY2002! Seriously!

If this price included the defroster with wiring and switch, all completely installed, I would do it.

PS: I really don't understand the folks that keep suggesting to 'just get a hardtop' every time this issue comes up. It's really not applicable to this situation.

I share your sentiments .........I would get a hard top for track... but that is another issue altogether.

I believe the defroster and wiring is included .... will check on that.

Another s2k owner had his soft top slashed and had the entire top replaced with the original '00-'01 version for S$1.6k (one third of the cost of replacing with the glass version) .... gee I wonder why such a discrepency

the discrepency probably accounts for the fact that the hardware needs to be changed if they upgrade to the 2002 glass window top. the new top folds at different places than the 00-01 top, so the frame is different somehow to accomodate that.
