The Miata Tube is a padded tube a few feet long. You put it on the outside of your rear window when you put the top down. It prevents the dreaded crease across the rear window.

nvmys2k,
You can buy one at http://www.allroadster.com and Honda recommends it in their TSB 00-047 for rear window care. It costs $25. including delivery. Very nice quality.

So did you notice any differences since you had it replaced? Does it scratch or crease as much like before?
I can see clearly now...

No creases...i put my top up whenever i am parked. It still gets scratches on the outside from the top hitting it when it is down. but they dont bother me since the scratches are towards the bottom of the window..and you must get a MUZ mat...no scratches on the inside...it is 100% better then it was.

The TSB on the rear window has to do with proper care of the window, and is not a replacement TSB. While the "Miata tube" does help prevent creasing, I've found the best way to avoid creasing andscratches is to use a soft terrycloth towel stuffed under the top on the outside where it overlaps the window on three sides (top + either side). It is held in place for easy lowering, plus it will stay in place when you put the top up temporarily while shopping, dining out, etc. The towel covers the entire window, protecting it from permanent scratches/creases. The MUZ mat is a must for the inside well.

I am a bit unclear on this...I have had my 2001 only 5 days and there is a crease and scratches right in the horizontal middle all the way across the rear window. I am gonna assume it was from the time the car was at the home of the owner of the dealership where I got it. I had the top down part of the second day we had it but not at all since. I bought and applied the Meguiar's cleaner and polish and still have the scratches and bulge. I am 700 miles from the dealer who sold the car. Can I expect replacement under warranty here locally? Does the TSB and "goodwill" apply to 2001 models?

Muz mat is on the way and I got the "Miata Tube" today.

(ps I don't really have the mods listed in my signature...its a joke, it was late at night, etc)

Speaking of http://www.allroadster.com and rear window protector, there is a caution:

"NEVER! Leave your soft top down with the plastic window uncovered exposing it to direct sunlight. Direct sunlight shining through the clear plastic can set up a green house effect and burn the plastic causing permanent damage in less than 20 minutes!"

So does this means that we should never park our cars in sunlight with the top down? Can someone explain this in plain English to me, please. I tend to just leave my top down in warm weather, both while driving and parked (too much trouble to take the top up and down with every stop). What is the recommendation?

Also if you go to the allroadster.com S2000 page, what is a "Gear Shit Knob"??? :-)
