Rear wheels underwing?

Actually someone came to me recently about making some "trays" to prevent the dirt and gravel from accumulating in the rear bumper, Apparently he lives on a gravel road and the wheels throw debris at the bottom of the trunk and is quite loud!
Definitely a custom job!

I think I might just know what he's talking about here.
If you look at BMWs, and can see that the rear wheel-wells are well covered, thus making less of a mess on the inside of the rear bumper or the mufflers, am I correct here? What do I win??
Our cars have these empty spaces behind the rear wheels where all the crap from the tires get accumulated.
EDIT: I just looked back, I'm a year too late answering the question.
